ATHERTON Second XI duly claimed the Redmayne Bentley Bolton & District Cricket Association Second XI title by beating Little Hulton on the penultimate day of the season to pip Adlington.

The title was won at Little Hulton due mainly to the bowling of Williams (4-30) and Marsh (4-17) as the home side were dismissed for 106 replying to Atherton's 131-9.

The title-winning margin was eventually 26 points as Elton were beaten by five wickets the following day.

Anthony Gredecki was the main man with 64 after a series of eight bowlers had managed to bowl the opposition out for 116. Graham Bushell top-scored for Elton with 40.

Adlington did their best by also winning both games. They beat Darcy Lever after only mustering 96-9 themselves.

Roe took 4-22 for Darcy and there were three wickets each for Jones, Whitehead and Hitchen.

Although Edgworth were beaten easily on Sunday, highlight of the game was an innings of 69 no by Tebay in a total of 116-10.

This was countered by 61 from Chris Jones and 43 by Phil Walmsley as Adlington won by eight wickets.

Edgworth deserved credit enabling Adlington to win by playing through some very heavy rain.

Adlington were also beaten into runners-up spot in the caps competition by Little Hulton who recovered from 74-7 to reach 150-7 in reply to Standish's 149-7 thanks to Vinnie Mullineux (37 no) and David Rushton (38 no).
