JOHN McGinlay reacts to a 5-2 defeat at Liverpool (Robbie Fowler scoring four) by admitting Wanderers are finding the Premiership tougher than they ever imagined. "We all knew it was going to be hard but not as hard as it's been in the first seven games," he confesses after the Anfield annihilation. Burnden boss Roy McFarland is lining up a big-money move for Raith Rovers full-back Steve McAnespie, who is also wanted by Kevin Keegan at Newcastle. FROM the BEN, September 24, 1990.
PHIL Neal reacts to a deepening defensive injury crisis by spending £100,000 on Manchester City centre-half Mark Seagraves (pictured left). With Alan Stubbs and Mark Came sidelined and Mark Winstanley suspended, Wanderers are desperate to to tie up the deal for the 23-year-old former Liverpool reserve in time for him to make his debut in the Rumbelows Cup at Coventry. A certain Dean Holdsworth was one of the Brentford scorers at the weekend when Wanderers crashed to their fourth defeat in six games - 4-2 at Griffin Park. FROM the BUFF of September 27, 1975.
INDIFFERENT at home, Wanderers continue their impressive away form with a 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest. They lead through a Neil Whatmore goal just before half time and a Paul Jones penalty in the 57th minute but Forest fight back and it takes a magnificent rearguard action by Jones, Allardyce and Co to restrict Brian Clough's side to a George Lyall consolation seven minutes from time .
