Lostock 8, Clitheroe 0
LOSTOCK RUFC returned to winning ways at the weekend with an 8-0 victory over Clitheroe, giving them their first league points of the season.
Although they only scored eight points, this in no way reflected the match where Lostock dominated for the whole eighty minutes.
The only thing that stopped a more convincing victory was their failure once again to turn possession in to points. A lot of this was due to over exuberance when in scoring positions, although this was the only criticism of their performance as they recovered from last weeks defeat well.
With a more convincing look about them in the backs Losotock took the game to the visitors from the first whistle, with the forward punching holes in the Clitheroe defence at will. New boy Swain making his debut was particularly impressive especially in the loose and Clitheroe had no answer to this commitment and aggression. Mid-way through the first period Lostock scored their only try. The home forwards destroyed a Clitheroe scrummage on halfway setting number eight Leonard on a rampaging run.Cameron supported well before giving winger DARREN MELLING the chance to finish off superbly. Before half time Lostock went further in front. From another good attacking position the home side thought they had scored their second try only for this to be adjudged a forward pass, the referee however was playing advantage and brought them back for a penalty in front of the posts which NICHOLS converted easily. The second period was much of the same story with Lostock dominating but unable to turn this in to points. This was shown not long after the break when with a two man overlap and a man inside, Lostock failed to make the pass and the chance was missed. Sooner or later this possession is going to count and someone will be on the end of a good hiding. Towards the end nerves were a little tense as one score would have changed the complexion of the game, but realistically Clitheroe never looked like breaching the home defence and Losock finished worthy winners. Lostocks next fixture is away at Montell and all supporters and new players are extremely welcome.
