JUSSI Jaaskelainen produced the kind of form that could foil England's World Cup bid next week but it wasn't enough to prevent high-flying Fulham bringing Wanderers' unbeaten run to a shattering end.

The mighty Finn, practically redundant as Sam Allardyce's Unlikely Lads stormed to six wins and two draws in their first eight games, produced a string of impressive saves to keep alive Saturday's top of the table clash at the Reebok until the 85th minute.

But Luis Boa Morte's second goal - his first came after just 12 SECONDS - secured a ninth successive win for the Londoners and left the Bolton keeper smarting.

"If we'd have been better organised at the back, we might have had a chance," he lamented after the 2-0 defeat. Jaaskelainen flies out this week for two of the biggest games of his life - the World Cup qualifiers in Greece on Saturday and the big one against England in Helsinki next Wednesday.

But it's home affairs that dominated his thoughts after tasting defeat for the first time this season.

The international call means he will miss Friday night's trip to Gillingham, where Wanderers will be looking to bounce back, but he'll be hoping his understudy Steve Banks gets better protection than he had as Fulham threatened a much more convincing victory. "They scored from our start and from our throw-in at their end ..." he reflected on the decisive moments, "it was bad defending on both goals, especially the second.

"I thought we handled them well and there was still time for use to get the equaliser until they scored the second goal. We have to be better organised at the back."

Jaaskelainen, the current No 1 but facing competition for the Finland shirt from Hearts' keeper Antii Niemi, is hoping to get the nod to face England in the 37,000-capacity Olympic Stadium.

But was taking nothing for granted when he insisted: "Let's see what happens in Greece first. That's going to be a tough game over there. We have been doing well recently but with England and Germany in the group we have to play some of the best teams in the world and we can only look at it game by game"

Nevertheless he goes with glowing testimonials after his latest display for Wanderers.

"Jussi showed what a class goalkeeper he is," Sam Allardyce said. "He's been busy for the first time this season because we've done well defensively up to now and he hasn't had to make too many saves.

"But on Saturday he kept us in the game and gave the lads some hope. Unfortunately, they couldn't grasp what he offered us and couldn't get us the result."

And Fulham's John Collins - midfield general and spokesman-interpreter for manager Jean Tigana - said: "The keeper played really well, especially in the first half when he had a few one-on-ones."
