FUNDS for Bolton Destitute Animal Shelter took a dive...much to the delight of its workers and volunteers.

The plunge in question was a sponsored sky dive -- which it is hoped will have boosted funds for the Great Lever shelter by more than £1,500.

Shelter manager Neil Martin took the leap for charity together with son Paul, dog groomer and supporter Nicola Powell, and supporter Ian Hardman.

The tandem jumps were from 15,000 feet altitude, almost three miles -- the maximum legal height for parachuting without oxygen in the UK.

Neil said: "The freefall element of the jump involved plummeting towards the earth at 125mph without the parachute open for about two miles. This took about 55 seconds, after which the tandem parachute was opened allowing for a smooth descent to the ground.

"The jumps were at Hilbaldstow Airfield in Lincolnshire and was facilitated by Andy Hesketh of Phoenix Skysports who gave up his time to support the cause.

"We would like to thank him and all of the people who supported the jumpers." Neil with instructor Steve exit the plane at 15,000 feet, and a smile for the camera at 4,000ft as they plummet towards the ground.
