MAY I, as Albert Hornby calls it, 'parrot' a few more facts about the price of oil.
In 1993 Norman Lamont's Budget increased petrol duty by 10 per cent, and also brought in the 3pc escalator over inflation. He also introduced VAT on domestic fuel. Now they accuse the present Government of wasting money on the Dome etc.
Lamont, on one day, Black Wednesday, lost £15 billion, because he got his 'maths' wrong. I wonder how many hospitals were sacrificed that day?
He also gave away money to the big oil companies by cutting the petroleum revenue tax from 75pc to 50pc, and, after the 1993 Budget, oil new fields paid no tax at all.
I noticed at the Tory Conference, Margaret Thatcher arriving. She spoke to several pensioners: "you have paid all your life and should be given more." This, the person who broke the link with earnings and robbed the pensioners for years.
I wrote in a recent letter of the farmers and the BSE crisis, saying they had colluded with the Tory Government to hide the true nature of this fatal disease.
I have, on seeing a TV programme that examined some of the facts, thought the farmers could have been betrayed, like the rest of the country was, by the Gummers, Hoggs and even Government scientists, on the true nature of the fatal disease. At the end of this month, after a two year study, I believe the names of those responsible will be made known.
The BSE crisis has done more damage to our country than all moans the Tories have about Labour's strategies.
I was going to make a remark about the Tory thoughts on 'law and order', but they are, once again, going back to the drawing board.
What has come out of the Tory annual farce, is that, according to their MP Philip Hammond, 'women doctors are less efficient than male doctors'. Good for recruitment.
