AN extra day's break before this weekend's tough Millwall clash is just what the doctor ordered for weary Bury.

According to boss Andy Preece the extra rest is vital because almost his entire squad has been involved in the Shakers' tremendous start to the season and they are ready for a rest.

But because Bury's home game against Bristol Rovers was brought forward to Friday night because of England's international match the following day it has given Preece and his players an extra day off to get their breath back.

"We need the break because we need as much rest as we can," admitted Preece. "The squad is going to be tested to the full. There's only three or four lads who haven't been involved this season.

"It's been a squad effort and over the next three or four games which come thick and fast we are going to need everybody. So we are going to have to keep the players fresh."

Preece said his target by the end of October is for Bury to be in the top six. That will be a great achievement as the next few matches include away trips to Millwall, Notts County and Wigan and home clashes with Bournmouth and Reading.

Meanwhile, speculation that the Shakers are on the verge of singing talented Manchester United youngster David Healy has been dismissed as rubbish.

Chairman Terry Robinson said the rumour that the 21-year-old was about to come to Gigg Lane was completely untrue.

Healy, a terrific prospect who has just signed a new contract with Fergie's Reds, scored Northern Ireland's goal against Denmark at the weekend.

"He's in United's 24-strong Euro squad so they wouldn't let us take him on loan even if we wanted to," said Robinson.

"We are constantly looking at different options for if and when there may be a shortfall in players because of injuries but this rumour is rubbish."
