BOLTON swimmer Steven Leigh did the town proud when he met the Queen at yesterday's official opening of Manchester's multi-million pound Commonwealth pool.
Steven, 13, was part of the North West Disabled Swimming Squad which did a demonstration in the pool while the Queen watched.
Also there were Steven's proud parents, David and Gill.
Steven, who swims for Bolton Metro's disabled team as well as the North West squad, was invited because he will be using the Commonwealth pool as his training base.
The Westhoughton teenager is a talented sportsman and only days ago returned from an international swimming competition in Belgium where he had been representing England and Wales.
"He has been busy lately," said his dad. "He swims in most events and does 100m freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. We're very proud of him."
The Queen was in Manchester to officially open the Commonwealth pool and the Lowry Centre, even though both have been open to the public for months.
