MOSES GATE COUNTRY PARK, Farnworth. Bolton Countryside Service has organised a series of countryside workshops. Sunday October 15, making walking sticks, creating a range of head handles including duck and badger heads with hazel and ash, mainly using knives and gouges. Also, Sunday October 22, bodging, an introductory day into the basic techniques of green-wood working, using native, fast-growing timbers to make chair legs, rolling pins, spoons etc, using a shaving horse and pole-lathe. Also, Sunday October 29 willow weaving, using living, green willow to create woven panels. Workshops will run from 10am to 4pm and the organisers will teach new and interesting skills both to absolute beginners and the more "crafty". ARLEY HALL AND GARDENS, near Northwich, Cheshire, will be open to the public for weekends only during October. Crafts on October 28 and 29. On Saturday October 14, Sundays October 15 and 21 Lord Ashbrook will conduct guided walks through the Grove for members of the public. Reduced entry price of £2.50 for adults and children aged five to 15 admitted for £1. Normal admission prices to the antique and craft fairs will apply. Gardens open 11am to 5pm.
