ALBERT Hornby, what are you on about? Are you Tory leader William Hague's poodle, or what?

I have never heard so much propagandist drivel in my life. Why the BEN allowed him to produce an essay I'll never know.

You would have thought from Mr Hornby's letter that the Tories were the motorist's friend. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it Mr Portillo who introduced the fuel duty escalator in the first place? This ignores the fact that we have the lowest tax burden in Europe, but, hey, Mr Hornby's not interested in facts is he? I bet he didn't even write that letter. He was probably asked to pen his name to it. In fact, if we scoured the letters pages of newspapers up and down the country, there will be hundreds of Hornbys spouting drivel. No mention of spending cuts, no mention of a return to boom and bust, and no mention of the massive debt left behind by 18 years of economic mismanagement.

In a sense, I feel sorry for Albert Hornby, because he has done the devil's work and tried his best to convince readers that, really, Hague and Portillo have changed and if elected would not take us back to the bad old days. Unfortunately, the drugs fiasco has revealed that the John Major years would be tame in comparison to the chaos that would ensue if, God forbid, the Tories were elected again.
