THE Massed Bands of the Royal Air Force are set to pay tribute to the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Britain at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall on October 20.

The concert, conducted by Wing Commander Rob Wiffin, the RAF's Principal Director of music, is dedicated to "The Few" -- the Spitfire and Hurricane pilots who fought off German invasion in the summer of 1940.

The evening will be compered by BBC radio personality Ed Stewart.

Leading West End singer Annalene Beechey will join follow soloist Corporal Matthew Little to perform some of the chart-toppers of 60 years ago.

Among the songs will be Somewhere Over The Rainbow, A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square, I'll Never Smile Again and Kiss Me Goodnight Sergeant Major.

The 90 RAF musicians will also recreate the big band sound of Glen Miller and will play the Rodgers and Hart classics Blue Moon, The Lady is a Tramp and Falling in Love with Love.

The concert is being held in support of the RAF Benevolent Fund -- the military charity taking care of veterans who served in World War II, together with all other past and present members of the Royal Air Force.
