A BOLTON man's Bosnia mission has succeeded after a four wheel mercy trip reached its destination.
Conrad Dobson, of Longfellow Avenue, Daubhill, set off last week with his 15-year-old son Simon as part of a Land Rover convoy taking aid to the remote village of Bonsaska Krupa.
The 30 vehicles, organised by the Red Cross, reached the village on Saturday and the medical and school equipment and clothing they were carrying have been unloaded into a warehouse for use by the local people.
Conrad contacted his wife, Anne at home in Bolton at the weekend to say they had received a tremendous welcome.
"The welcome from the people was really emotional," said Anne.
She added that Conrad and Simon had been struck by the appalling conditions the population is living in, with most of the buildings still badly scarred from the war.
Yesterday Conrad presented a plaque bearing the Bolton Coat of Arms to the mayor of the village.
He had been asked to take it by Bolton's mayor, Cllr Alan Wilkinson, and believes it will be placed on a wall in the local orphanage to remind them that the people of Bolton care about their plight.
Conrad and Simon are due to start their long journey home through Europe later this week and could be back home again at the weekend.
