AFTER a confident 10-3 win over Metro Allstars in the Monday 5th Division, the Dirty Ratz were looking to league leaders PSV Hangover to do them a favour against second-placed Electrical Services.
PSV duly obliged, putting their closest rivals to the sword in a hard-fought but fairly one-sided 14-6 mismatch.
This allowed the Dirty Ratz to leapfrog over Electrical Services into second place with only three games to go. The two teams meet in a couple of weeks in a game which will surely decide who goes up with leaders PSV, who now only need one point from their last three games to be crowned champions.
Things couldn't be closer in the Worthingtons Tuesday 4th Division. After victories this week, Tango Town and Ardwicks are now level on 24 points at the top of the league. The league form team, Pennine are only two points behind, but they also have a game in hand, which could put them top by one point if they win.
Hertha Kitt are eagerly waiting in the wings only three points off the pace, but with the top two both playing Pennine in the next couple of games, they are poised to capitalise on mistakes made.
This week's biggest upset occurred in the Britvic Wednesday 1st Division in the game between Full Monty and Dark Destroyers. In the last couple of weeks, Dark Destroyers have been in a rich vain of form, leading the division and winning a superb trip to Dublin in the Premier Fives Summer 2000 competition. Unfortunately, the "wheels came off" in a big way when they were beaten by 13-8 by Full Monty in a fiercely contested match. This allowed Fletchers to move into the top spot after their comfortable win over the Bungles. The top two meet in the last game of the season in what will undoubtedly be a game of winner takes all.
The Griffin's fate was sealed this week when they went down fighting to last season's Guinness Thursday Premier champions, Deane, 10-8. This now sees them relegated back down to the First. Who will go down with them still remains to be seen, after Sharp Shooters used their 'get out of jail free' card against an under strength Detinu Sdeel. Their better movement and finishing saw them come out on top of the 8-5 scoreline leaving any one of four teams still with a real possibility of going down with the Griffin. The worst set of results in 10 seasons for Detinu sees them having to fight for survival -- an unusual position for a team which usually challenges for the honours.
Places are still available for the next league season, which begins in two weeks' time.
