LANCASHIRE is to get a new Super Co-op with sales of over £70 million a year. Three of the country's largest Co-operatives will merge to form the new retail organisation. They are: Bolton and Wigan, Blackburn and Lancastria.

BRITAIN'S key inflation figure has fallen for the first time in a year - it now stands at 26.6 per cent.

THE need for more Civil Defence volunteers in peace-time is stressed with the new recruiting drive which began on Sunday with the Prime Minister's broadcast. It is not intended that this new drive should cause alarm, but it is pointed out that if war should come it will be necessary to have a nuclei of full-trained men and women. In Bolton, at least 2,270 Civil Defence workers are needed in peace-time, but in war-time some 6.800 would be required. At present there are only 250 volunteers.

A SPECIAL meeting of the Town Council is summoned for Saturday next to 'consider whether in the judgment of the said Council it is expedient for such Council to promote in the next session of parliament a bill to extend the boundaries of the municipal borough of Bolton. To confer upon the Mayor, Aldermen and Burgesses of the borough powers with respect to the construction and maintenance of tramways; and additional powers in relation to their waterworks and gas undertakings, and the government of the borough; and for other purposes; and also at such meeting to determine out of which public funds or rates under the control of the said council the cost and expenses attending the promotion of the said Bill shall be payable, and in what proportion, and further to pass such resolution or resolutions to such Bill as by the meeting so held shall be deemed meet.'
