PENNINGTON Hawks' first under 16s game for five weeks saw them take control in the first five minutes, with Roberts winning the man of the match award by playing some good creative football to help his team overcome a gallant Winton Wanderers.
He not only scored twice but created attacks for several Hawks scorers, including Philip Butler, who also had a excellent game, and netting his hat-trick, and Tony Warburton with two fine strikes to bag two also.
Other goals came from new signing Mark Logan slotting in the first goal of the game from a direct free kick into the top corner and Hawks captain Ryan Devlin scoring from inside the box.
Winton Wanderers fought bravely throughout the game with a never-say-die attitude, with three fine well earned goals, two from Thomas Quinn and one from Steven Thomas.
In the Under 14s a well fought out game between Standish Juniors and W J United. Top of the table United had a shock when Standish went ahead with two goals by Andrew Simpson. United fought back hard and scored two late goals, one from Paul Penlebury and the other from Dean Hunt to grab a point.
On Sunday, October 22, Leigh and District Youth League U16s travel to play the might of Rochdale Youth League at Rochdale St Clemence, kick off 1.30pm.
