Tyldesley 28, Ashton-under-Lyne 14 TYLDESLEY RUFC left it late to record another victory in the North Lancashire Division One clash with Ashton under Lyne.
Despite constant early pressure neither the Tyldesley forwards nor the impressive Tyldesley backline could find a way past some good defensive work by the visitors.
Tyldesley took the lead with a Eddiw Wallbank penalty which he extended moments later with another to put Tyldesley 6-0 up.
With five minutes of the half remaining Ashton worked the blind side for their left winger to blaze in for a try from distance which was easily converted to put the visitors 7-6 up at the break.
The second period finally found Tyldesley in a mood to ensure their dominance up front counted, with Scrum Half Cunliffe going over the line following good work from West, Hampson and Hughes.
From the restart Darren Edge set up a good field position and Stand Off David Sivill kicked astutely to the corner and from the resulting lineout Tyldesley stole the ball and Edge powered his way over.
The forwards then began to control all aspects of play upfront and this allowed Cunliffe to feed the back line and bring tries firstly for Winger Gary Corbett and then Centre Adam Fetherston. Tyldesley made several changes late on and allowed Ashton to score a late consolation try to make the score a little flattering to the visitors who where outclassed by a team which now moves up to third in the league.
qTYLDESLEY seconds were winning at Ashton when Second Rower Dermott Mitchell suffered a horrific leg injury which left the popular beat bobby with a compound fracture of the leg.
Sensibly the Referee called a halt to proceedings. Both Tyldesley thirds and Ashton thirds suffered from cry-offs and the game was called off a hour before kick off. Rugby
