WITH enough rain around to fill an Olympic size swimming pool it was no surprise that Bolton Sunday League fixtures were almost completely wiped out.
In fact the only surprise was that any games went ahead at all.
Three matches were played with many of the players opting for flippers and a snorkel instead of boots.
And it's a credit to the Sunday Leaguers that, despite the sodden surface, some cracking football was played.
Spectators at the only surviving Premier Division game were treated to a six-goal thriller in a splendid match between high flyers Gibraltar Rock and Radcliffe Amateurs.
Craig Tilley put the visitors one up but Gibraltar hit back with two strikes, the first from Lee Jones, then Lee Montgomery.
But just as it looked as though The Rock were gaining the upper hand Radcliffe showed their fighting quality by first drawing level and then going 3-2 up, both goals from Andy Gudolc.
Then, just when the visitors thought they had won it, up popped Gibraltar's Andy Miller to make it three each.
A belting match and in the end the right result.
The other two matches to take place were in Division Two. Farnworth and Kearsley Dynamos entertained FC Baroc and Little Hulton Cricket Club played Hare and Hounds, Breightmet.
FC Baroc proved too strong for the Dynamos winning comfortably 6-2. Star man was Danny Coyle who smashed a hat trick while Steve Fletcher, Stuart Kirkman and Clint Aspinall got the others.
David Shaw and Chris Holt were on target for the Dynamos.
Over at Little Hulton it was a day of celebration for League new boys Hare and Hounds. They picked up maximum points just hanging on to record a memorable 3-2 victory.
Lee Aldread, Paul Gibson and James Jackson got the vital goals to send their manager Geoff Morris into seventh heaven. For Little Hulton Roger Kumah and Darren Lindsay scored.
Well done to the lads who played -- I wouldn't fancy washing their kit though.
