NOMADS played an Elton first team playing with only seven of their regular team, and with only 10 players and neither side produced the goods.
Eventually, deep into the second half the deadlock was broken when Sam Williams scored the only goal, following a bad defensive mistake by the Elton defence. Players of the match were for Nomads' Sam Williams and for Elton's Paul Evans.
An all Elton game between their second and B teams was decided in favour of the second team through Leanna Brooks, who scored once in each half. Elton Second dominated the game, and their passing and finishing was good. The scoreline would have been greater had the B team goalkeeper Amanda Hull, their player of the match, not been in top form. Claire Sharples was named player of the match for Elton Second.
County Ladies and Hindley played each other for the second week running. Last week in the Davennort Cup Hindley ran out 3-0 winners. This time the County defence stiffened by the return of Michelle Waring, their regular goalkeeper, did not buckle under the pressure of the Hindley attack. The most notable County attack resulted from a break out following a period of sustained Hindley pressure, and only the timely intervention by Hannah Green the Hindley goalkeeper saved them. Final score 0-0. Players of the match: Michelle Waring for County and Janet Ashton for Hindley.
The most interesting game of the day was between Little Lever and Eagley. Both teams had demonstrated the ability to score goals, so it says a lot for the strength of the two defences, that they only let in one goal each. Neither team managed to score in the first half.
The half time talks must have done something, for Eagley scored in the first minute through a goal from Carol Ainscow. Eleven minutes later Little Lever equalised, when a hit across the circle by Julie Bluer was deflected into the goal off the stick of a defender. Player of the match for Little Lever was Julie Bluer and for Eagley Gill Roocroft.
Results -- Hanson 0 Eagley FS 0; Elton C 2 Hayvern St James 1; Elton Second 2 Elton B 0; County Ladies 0 Hindley 0; Eagley 1 Little Lever 1; Nomads 1 Elton First 0.
