GOLFER Daniel McArevey has bunkered claims that he wooed a pop star away from her heart-throb boyfriend.

The Bolton teenager, above, was thrown into the celebrity limelight after a newspaper report claimed he had been dating teen sensation Billie Piper for the past six months.

But Daniel dismissed the reports that she had chosen the "dishy golfer" over Five star's Richie Neville as "rubbish" and claims he has never even met the singer who is currently in Australia.

Daniel, who works at Whitefield Golf Club, looked anxious when he came to the door of his neat, modern terraced house on Dee Drive, Kearsley.

Gossip columnists from the national newspapers have been plaguing him for days about the alleged romance with the British Queen of Pop. Yesterday the rumours made the headlines in a top selling national tabloid but Daniel said: "It's rubbish. I've never met her and I wouldn't know her if I walked past her in the street.

"There is no relationship with Billie Piper. I've already got a beautiful girlfriend. She's a local girl who I've been seeing for about six months.

"I'm not telling you her name because I don't want her to get any hassle.

"This is all an embarrassment for me, an embarrassment for my family, an embarrassment for my girlfriend and an embarrassment for my club."

According to a national newspaper Daniel initially told them he had been seeing Billie following her split from Neville but later changed his story to deny any romance.

But he claimed that the first he had heard of the rumours was when national journalists starting deluging him with phone calls alleging he had been spotted kissing the 18-year-old singer in a Manchester bar.

He claims he then contacted Billie's record company and agent to try and sort it out and that is why he knew details of the stars movements when quizzed by journalists.

Daniel, who is believed to live with his school teacher father Joe, claimed he hired a famous legal firm to get an injunction to stop the story being published at the last minute but it was too late.

He says he has not been able to get hold of his girlfriend to tell her about the reports and is unsure how she will react.

"I don't know what she'll say, your guess is as good as mine," he said.

"Tell everyone it's rubbish and I do not know where it's come from," he added.

Neighbours confirmed that they have not spotted any likely looking pop stars coming and going to the house in recent months.

And one who did not want to be named quipped: "I suppose he is quite good looking but when I saw him this morning he did not have a gorgeous looking girl on his arm."

The reports of a romance with the teen idol is not Daniel's first brush with fame.

Earlier this year he was the subject of an hilarious on-air wind up when Galaxy 102 DJ Adam Cole phoned up pretending to be a butler who wanted to book lessons for a Lord of the manor.

A spokesman on the 3am column in the Daily Mirror said she did not want to comment on Daniel's claims that the allegations that he is never even met Billie Piper.
