ANOTHER tragic blow has hit Chorley Labour Party within less than a week with the sudden death of a second former councillor.
Graham Cocking, who represented Euxton South between 1994-98, died on Monday.
Just last Thursday, ex-councillor Ken Charnley died suddenly at his home.
Mr Cocking, who was in his late sixties, lived in Earlsway, Euxton. He was married to Carole.
He lost his seat two years ago but was looking to stand for election to Lancashire County Council.
A procurement officer for the MoD up to his retirement, he recovered from an operation for cancer two years ago.
Mr Cocking was a member of Chorley Police and Community Forum and said to be a firm believer in law and order.
Euxton North ward Labour councillor Danny Gee paid tribute to Mr Cocking, saying: "He was a loveable fellow. I got on very well with him. I looked at the man and admired him."
Retired school teacher Mr Charnley lived at Keeper's Cottage, Brindle. He was married to Mona.
A former Conservative leader on Chorley Borough Council, he defected to Labour and became vice-chairman of the planning committee.
Former secretary of Blackburn and District NUT, he was was head teacher at a Blackburn primary school and became the longest serving head teacher in the town.
He had a strong interest in education and was a member of Chorley and South Ribble Community Health Council.
Jack Wilson, Labour leader of Chorley Borough Council, said: "It really is a double blow for us.
"Graham was a really lovely man, a dedicated family man, dedicated councillor and a dedicated representative of the people of Euxton South.
"He was a most generous, amiable and friendly man. And as well as his family, we will sorely miss him."
Mr Wilson said of Mr Charnley: "Ken devoted his live to public service.
"Ken was a most dedicated public servant you could ever have wished for.
It is a tragic blow to have both gone."
The funeral service for Mr Charnley takes place at Holy Trinity Parish Church, Hoghton, tomorrow (Friday).
Mr Cocking's funeral service will be held at Euxton Parish Church next Wednesday.
