FOUR members of Chorley Harriers were inspired to complete the Manchester Marathon course and two notched personal bests.
Jeannette Coleman's high training mileage paid dividends as she won the female vet 40 prize in a terrific time of 3 hours 10, well within the qualifying time for the London Marathon while Ian Crabtree beat his previous marathon time by an astonishing 34 minutes, crossing the line in 3 hours 18. Andy Norris, completing his second marathon in two weeks, came home in 3 hours 24.
Completing the quartet was Steve Mason who finished with 4 hours 29.
Ian said: "The weather was appalling and really got to me by about 18 miles.
"However, I managed to keep my head down and battle on and in the end I was really pleased with my time."
A glutton for punishment, Andy is off to complete the Snowdon Marathon in three weeks.
Meanwhile, competing for England in the Under 16's British Junior Fell Championship at Sedbergh, Cumbria, Chorley Harriers' Katie Ingram was part of the English squad that won first place.
