Adlington Rangers ARLFC played Spotland on Saturday after a two-week lay-off because of the weather.

Rangers started well and put Spotland under a lot of pressure but their defence held.

Then forward Jamie Smith broke through. Mark Lowe carried on the move and he neatly drew the full back to pass to Carl Parker, backing up, who went over for the opening converted try.

Lowe made some fine breaks but couldn't find a gap. Then some good crossfield passing put Parker away and he handed on to Carl Hough to score. Parker added the goal.

Rangers were on top now but some dropped balls gave Spotland their chance although Rangers' defence held.

James Roden at full back was having a good game, taking the high balls and running them out before he was injured and had to leave the field. Parker then missed a penalty and from then on Spotland came more into the game.

Just before the break Rangers made some simple errors when fly kicking at a loose ball and it let Spotland in for an easy try.

Spotland's defence was holding well and, although Rangers were pounding their line, long kicks up-field got them out of trouble.

Rangers dropped the ball right on their own line for Spotland to score again and the Adlington lads began to make a string of mistakes while Spotland were happy to cash in on them.

Another knock-on allowed Spotland through again to take a 14-12 points lead and although Rangers attacked right to the end they held out for the victory.

Man of the Match, after great game, was Jamie Smith.
