MARK Fish has officially rejected the offer of a new three year contract with Wanderers and could finally be on his way out at the Reebok, reveals BEN Chief Soccer Writer Gordon Sharrock with this exclusive report.
The South African defender has told his Bolton bosses that he will not be signing the lucrative extension to his current deal, which expires at the end of the season, and has immediately fuelled speculation over his future.
Sam Allardyce was staying tight-lipped this morning but I understand the manager is bitterly disappointed at the way things have developed after announcing three weeks ago that he had shaken hands on a deal with the player.
Fish then consulted his agent and Wanderers have been waiting, ever since, for him to put pen to paper.
News that he has now officially rejected the offer comes on the day when his name has again been linked with Charlton Athletic - four months after a £1.5 million transfer to The Valley dramatically collapsed.
Addicks' boss Alan Curbishley, who pulled out of the original deal in June, is reported to have revived his interest in the defender.
Wanderers have received no approach for the player but today's developments suggest Fish could soon be on his way. If he isn't sold, he will be entitled to a free transfer at the end of the season under the Bosman ruling.
If Charlton want to revive the deal, it could be completed in double quick time with all the groundwork having been done in the close-season.
Wanderers' accepted Curbishley's bid, Fish agreed personal terms and it was only at the 11th hour that the deal collapsed in confusion with the terms of payment and possible medical problems being cited for the breakdown.
