DAVID MAGILTON salutes Jason Robinson, one of rugby league's great entertainers, who played in last week's Grand Final before switching codes to join union outfit, Sale Sharks. I was sorry to see Jason Robinson bow out of rugby league on a low note.
It would have been fitting for 'Billy Whizz' to have departed at the top after gracing the sport for the past nine seasons.
The stage was set with nearly 60,000 packing into Old Trafford for the Grand Final but the Wigan and Great Britain star left empty-handed after being played inexplicably out of position and an indifferent performance saw him contribute to two of the opposition's tries.
Robinson will be greatly missed. He has been one of the sport's top entertainers with his lightning acceleration, tricky wing play and sportsmanlike manner endearing him to the majority of rugy league fans.
He has now decided to switch codes and 'take it easy' with Sale after achieving all he could at Wigan.
It is not surprising the Raa-Raa boys have been enthusing about a hybrid game between the two codes after witnessing another epic Grand Final.
The rugby league 'passion play' between arch-rivals Wigan and St Helens was in stark contrast to the dreadful fare usually served up by the union code.
Rugby league fans don't want a hybrid game - why should they, there's nothing wrong with the one they've got - but money talks and if Sky says the two sports must jump into bed together then prepare for the pyjama game.
