Westhoughton Mayor, Cllr Janet Halliwell, showed a certain "flair" for raising money at an event paying homage to the Seventies . . .

The fundraising Seventies Night was held at Greenfields Club in the town and raised almost £1,900 for the Mayor's chosen charities, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the National Meningitis Trust.

Clothes and fashions, including flares, bell bottoms, and glitz, from the decade were proudly modelled and entertainment came courtesy of the theme band, The Love Machine.

Cllr Halliwell said: "I would like to thank everyone who turned up on this wonderful night to support my charities. Particular mention should go to Alan Thomas who helped arrange the entertainment for the evening and compered the event."

Future events in aid of the Town Mayor's charities include a Body Shop Party on Friday, November 3. Tickets, £2, include refreshments and draw for free make over, and are from the Town Clerk on 01942 819802, or pay on the door. The event is at Westhoughton's Carniegie Hall.

The Mayor's Dinner will be held at Brookfield on Friday, March 23.
