BRISK business for young traders at a Westhoughton school raised £220 for charity.
Youngsters at Eatock Primary School checked out the opportunity to turn their school hall into a supermarket.
And the move paid off with pupils showing that when it comes to making a profit, they are in a class of their own.
Head teacher, Alison Chadderton, explained: "We adopt a charity every year and this time have chosen The Sargent. It is a children's charity for cancer and specifically picked it out because a pupil in the school has had a problem with a brain tumour.
Issue
"Somebody from the charity has been in to talk to the children about cancer, raising the issue in school.
"On the fundraising day we asked the children to bring things into school.
"They then set up their own supermarket to sell the goods to one another.
"The whole thing was run by the children who even decided the price of items.
"They set up the supermarket, looking at its lay out.
"And the fact the event raised £220 was the icing on the cake."
Youngsters at Eatock will continue their fundraising efforts on behalf of The Sargent appeal with a readathon in November.
The sponsored read, designed to encourage youngsters to pick up books, is part of a national campaign, due to begin the week starting November 6.
