A BRAVE teenager has faced a setback in her dream to have a new leg.
Amanda Gifford, of Barnwood Close, Halliwell, had her leg amputated earlier this year in a bid to beat cancer and was over the moon after being told she could have a new limb fitted.
The 15-year-old was looking forward to having the prosthetic fitted on Wednesday at Withington Hospital in Manchester, but was unable to attend her appointment because of a high temperature.
Her mum, Bernadette, said: "She is not well so we're taking her to the doctor to make sure everything is okay."
Doctors warned her family that she might not be suitable for a false leg because her amputation was too high.
But, after several visits to Withington Hospital, Manchester, over the past few weeks, she was finally looking forward to having the leg fitted properly.
Amanda has recently returned to Woodside Senior School where she had to drop back a year to catch up with her studies. She became ill in January of this year after coming home from school complaining of a sore leg -- and was diagnosed with cancer.
Amanda, who has four brothers and sisters, has pulled through a gruelling 10 months of fighting the illness and has spent most of the year in the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
Halliwell Central Reform Club, Brownlow Fold, is holding a cabaret evening in aid of Amanda on Tuesday, November 28. Donations £1.50.
