BOGUS gas workers are preying on homes in Bolton and Leigh, police have warned.

Residents are being told to be on their guard against two men acting as officials from British Gas.

The pair, aged around 19, tell homeowners one of their neighbours has had a gas explosion.

They then try and gain access to properties under the pretence that they have to check pipework.

A police spokesman said: "We urge people to be wary of allowing people into their homes without checking for identification."

Both men have Irish accents and it is thought they drive a red Ford Escort. Anyone with any information are asked to contact Leigh CID on 0161 856 7253.
