TWO men were badly burned after they tried to put out a blazing chip pan with water. A 26-year-old suffered injuries to his hands and face and a 21-year-old man was badly burnt on his back in the incident at Carter Street, Great Lever, last night.

Firefighters and ambulance paramedics were called after friends discovered the two men, who were not named, injured in the kitchen. Both men were burnt by cooking fat which had flashed out of the pan.

It is understood that they used a blanket to put out the flames but were injured when they threw water onto the hot fat after the cover burst into flames.

Both men were treated on the scene and taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital.
