ANDY Preece blasted the Gigg Lane boo boys for constantly booing striker Paul Barnes and even chanting for him to be sent off after he committed a foul.

''The crowd didn't help at all,'' said the disappointed Bury boss.

''I can't understand their mentality when they pick on certain individuals who are giving their all for the club.

''This kind of thing makes my job harder because it makes these players want to leave.

''I've had the same treatment that Barnesy had today and he just has to keep going and win the fans over.

"But it certainly doesn't help when the fans chant for one of our players to be sent off. That kind of thing gets to me.

''If the fans don't get behind us we've got no chance. We're fourth in the league but maybe we've made a rod for our own backs by doing so well.

''If the crowd carry on we may as well play every game away from home.''

Preece did point out that the majority though had been good supporters.

He said: ''To be fair they have been different class all season and I don't blame them for being unhappy about a 5-2 defeat.

''But some of the things they said I just couldn't believe.

"The treatment Barnes got, in my opinion, was unjust and unfair.

"He may not have played well but he certainly wasn't alone."
