From The Buff, October 25,1975
Wanderers continued their unbeaten run with a 2-2 draw at Hull City. John Byrom fired them ahead in the 8th minute but by half-time Malcolm Lord and Ken Wagstaff had given the home side the lead. In the end Garry Jones stepped in with an 80th minute equaliser to keep Wanderers second in the table behind Sunderland. Off the pitch manager Ian Greaves urged people to watch his team by saying: "Anyone who missed our last game at home should be forced to spend Saturday afternoons shopping with their wives and there can be no worse punishment for a man than that!"
A 1-0 win at Leyton Orient earned Wanderers vital away points as well as ending the home side's 100 per cent home record. Wanderers' early season form had been causing some concern but their away form - four points from their last two games - was beginning to restore some confidence. Stuart Storer was on the mark to earn the side winning points while hard work in midfield by former Liverpool star Sammy Lee kept Phil Neal's side in the hunt. With home games against Rotherham and Swansea coming next the Wanderers management were hoping to have shrugged off their indifferent start. From the BEN, October 21, 1995
HOW little things change in football. Wanderers have often been guilty of conceding last minute goals - as happened on Saturday and at Gillingham two weeks ago - but five years ago they lost points in this way on three consecutive occasions. Late goals had denied them against QPR and at Everton and then came the fixture at the City ground against Nottingham Forest. Richard Sneekes fired Wanderers ahead before Forest hit back to go 2-1 ahead but a point looked to be safe when substitute Fabian DeFrietas grabbed a goal. Then the curse struck again as Colin Cooper ghosted in to score a late winner.
