A NEW charter for better care and higher standards has been drawn up by Salford Council chiefs.
The charter covers anyone aged over 18 who has social or health problems associated with old age or who has long-term illness or disability. It also includes their carers.
Among the the charter's directives are: Treating people with courtesy, honesty and respecting their dignity; helping people achieve maximum possible independence; working in partnership with service users and carers to make sure correct services are provided; involving service users and carers in decisions; treating people fairly on basis of need; and making sure anyone can complain about poor standards of service without feeling victimised.
A summary leaflet, a list of useful telephone numbers and a card of contacts is also being produced and distributed, together with a new information pack for carers. Further information from Deborah Siddique of Salford Social Services on 0161 793 2323.
