LEIGH RUFC 1st fielded a changed team due to injuries and unavailability and suffered with a 37-0 defeat by unbeaten leaders Birkenhead Park.
A series of penalties against Leigh saw Park open the scoring with an unconverted try, followed shortly afterwards with a converted penalty. Further pressure from the Park pack saw them increase their lead with a try from a scrummage close to the Leigh line for a lead.
Leigh's best chance of the half saw Fitzmartin clear down the right wing with good inside support from Travers, who was tackled well just short of the line they drove over from a five metre scrum for a converted try. Leigh were now under severe pressure and conceded a penalty to go further behind. Two more converted tries sealed Leigh's fate.
