WELL this is interesting to say the least. You know all those really good catchy samples that appear on a whole host of dance tunes these days? Things like that great vocal on Moby's 'Natural Blues'? Well this is an album featuring the original artists, and what a good album it is.

I'm not usually into compilation albums at all, the last one I bought was 'You can all join in' an Island sampler released in 19 erm, (forget it!), but this is fascinating. It features forty complete songs that have been sampled by artists such as Moby, Fatboy Slim, Prodigy and the like, most of them really obscure classics such as the Buddy Rich version of 'The Beat Goes On'. Stuff you'll never find anywhere else.

It's fascinating because this album will sell on the strength of its association with modern artists, just as the modern artists used the older music for their own ends. Paying their dues so to speak.

Anyway, all I can say is, its a brilliant collection and worth buying just for Vera Hall's 'Troubled so Hard' (Moby) and Camilla Yarborough's 'Take yo Praise' (from Fatboy Slim's 'Praise You'). However there's 38 more tracks on here that will have you 'sample spotting' and which, at the very least will teach the kids today there's a whole world of dance music out there waiting to be rediscovered.
