ADLINGTON Rangers were away on Saturday at Haresfinch, St Helens.
They started well and had Finch back peddling right from the whistle.
With some really crisp cross-field passing out to the winger who was tackled short of the line but a quick play the ball back inside and Rangers were on the scoreboard when hooker Phil Moss dummied his way over for a try -- converted by Carl Parker.
Rangers kept up the pressure with all the forwards running hard.
Mark Lowe now backed up and cut through for a good try -- again converted by Parker.
Next, a length-of-the-field passing movement started by half-backs Mitchinson and Parker, carried on by the forwards then out along the line for winger Neil Talbot to race in at the corner -- no goal. Finch now broke through and managed a try wide out -- no goal. Rangers playing some good rugby opened them up again for Moss to get his second try -- converted by Parker.
In the next attack forward Jamie Smith, who had made some good breaks through the Finch defence, carried on to crash through for a try -- converted by Parker. It was a bit of a rout now.
A brief Finch attack was broken when Lowe intercepted and outpaced all the cover for his second try. Finch now kicked a penalty to make it 6 points but just before the break Carl Hough backed up another Rangers break to race through for a try -- again converted by Parker.
In the second half Rangers eased off and Finch came into the game. Some high kicks being allowed to bounce by Rangers let Finch regather and run in for a good try which they goaled. They pulled another score back, regathering a loose ball with quick passing to go under the sticks followed by a successful converstion. Rangers then settled down and their defence tightened up with Mitchinson doing some stirling work.
Rangers had the last word after another good forward break. Stuart Anwyl raced through to dive over. Again goaled by Parker. This was an excellent performance right through the team. Mark Lowe was named Man of the Match followed by Phil Moss and Ray Roscoe.
