CONSULTANT orthopaedic surgeon Rodney Phillips is to face trial at Manchester Crown Court accused of sexually assaulting nine female patients over a period of 24 years.
Dr Phillips, aged 62, of Old Hall Lane, Whitefield, was charged with 16 counts of indecent assault -- one on a girl of four and two others under 13.
The offences are alleged to have taken place at his rooms in St John's Street, Manchester, and Bury General Hospital between 1974-98.
Dr Phillips, who has been ordered to cease practising while awaiting trial, was bailed to appear before a Crown Court judge for plea and directions on December 5. He denied the charges.
The doctor also had to provide a £7500 security to the court, surrender his passport, and was warned not to apply for any travel documents.
