I REFER to the article in the Citizen (Oct 19) "Beggars off the streets" suggesting that the public refrain from giving money to beggars and instead send a donation to one of the many charitable organisations assisting the homeless.
If, as a young lad, I wasn't told by my parents how I should spend my pocket money, I can assure the Department of the Environment I will not, at the age of 62, be told how I should dispose of my money now.
Can you imagine on a freezing cold day a beggar asking for the price of a cup of tea, only to be told that a cheque had been sent to your favourite charity and it should clear in a couple of days.
I think not.
