BOLTON Wanderers may no longer be in the Worthington Cup, but their fans have kept the club's cup interest alive by winning through to the Third Round of the Worthington Fives -- a new tournament running alongside the Worthington Cup giving supporters the chance to represent their professional club in a national 5-a-side competition.
The Bolton Five, last year's Worthington Fives runners-up, will play the Wrexham Five, in the Third Round at the Powerleague Soccer Centre in Nottingham tomorrow after a 9-2 win over the Plymouth Five in the Second Round.
As well as playing at the Worthington Cup Final as a curtain-raiser to the game in February, the Worthington Fives champions will also receive an all-expense paid trip to Europe, just as the Worthington Cup winners win a trip to Europe, in the UEFA Cup.
Worthington is also offering all fans taking part in the Third Round the exclusive opportunity to pitch their skills against a team of legendary ex-pros called the Worthington Masters. The Masters squad, which includes Gary Birtles, Neil Webb, Kerry Dixon and Ian Andrews for the Third Round event, will be playing three exhibition matches on the day, which all the sides taking part will have an opportunity to play in.
The Third Round matches will be held on Sunday, October 29; Fourth (Sunday, November 26) and Semi-Final Rounds (Sunday, January 21, 2001) will also be played at the Powerleague Soccer Centre in Nottingham. The Worthington Fives Final will be played as a curtain raiser before the Worthington Cup Final on Sunday, February 25.
