A BOLTON TV production company looks set to take the television world by storm with its latest comedy sci-fi project.
The series of six spoof documentaries, titled Roddy Smythe Investigates, follows the escapades of a new-age traveller turned paranormal investigator who gets tangled up in weird events taking place in the fictional Lancashire town, Lower Titterington.
Since the filming of the series around Bolton and Farnworth began in April, details have been kept under wraps by production team Northern Misfits. A number of famous faces are known to be involved, making cameo appearances throughout the series.
The project also boasts the cream of northern talent and names from television.
Former British Kung Fu champion Mark Strange takes on the role of Soundman Geoff, while BAFTA nominated actress Kiki Kendrick plays a variety of characters.
Bolton comedy actor Peter Slater, who will play the lead role of Smythe and the director in the spoof, has also been supporting the tour of local award-winning musician Badly Drawn Boy, with his own brand of comedy.
Producers are in negotiations with TV companies and it is hoped that if a deal is struck, the show could be aired by next Easter.
Mark Howard, writer and producer, said: "As we continue to work on the series, we've proved there is a great deal of talent in the North-west.
"We've been able to create top-quality television for under £60,000 which is generally unheard of in the industry, with a lot of goodwill and favours."
Atherton based co-writer Gareth Williams has also just returned from a number of script meetings in Los Angeles, bringing with him American interest in the project.
Mark added: "It's great that there's such interest in the project, but ideally we would love to keep it local."
