HOW 100pc right was Mr G Moore (BEN, October 25). I assume his hard-earned savings are going smaller year by year; I know mine are.
Having worked until I was 61 or 62, I had to finish work and take on invalidity benefit because of an industrial disease -- Asbestosis.
When I was working, my wife and I, with our savings, were hardly ever in debt. We managed to buy and furnish our own house.
The point I wish to make is, through the TGW Union we were successful in getting a settlement, most of which is still intact, and because of this the interest that it generates goes to the Bolton Metropolitan Council to pay for our Community Charge.
Year in year out I am a sick man, with an illness not many people would like to have, but to top it up with the BMC charge doesn't make you feel any better.
