IT may conjure up images of bald-headed men sitting cross-legged on top of mountains but meditation has been shown to reduce stress levels.
Billed as the alternative therapy which can turn around feelings of stress, anxiety and depression, meditation has become the new "in-thing".
Ian Fovey, meditation teacher at the Bolton branch of Vairochana Buddhist Centre, believes it improves physical health and well-being and increases peace of mind and confidence.
He said: "Meditation is an important factor in developing true lasting happiness and inner peace. Anyone can meditate. Whether young or old, we can all experience the benefits of meditation and just 15 minutes every day will bring many positive results."
Classes called Meditations for a Peaceful Life are being held at Bolton Central Library on Tuesdays at 7.30pm, starting on November 7.
