FIREWORKS fans are being warned to ensure their homes are secure when they go to bonfire parties. Insurance bosses today revealed that November 5 is one of the prime times for house break-ins.
John Simpson, operations director for Woolwich's insurance services, said: "Winter is always a prime time for burglaries as criminals have longer to operate under the cover of darkness. On Bonfire Night, the noise made by breaking windows or forcing doors can be lost against the background noise of fireworks." Townsfolk are being advised to ensure they close curtains and leave lights on in their homes this Sunday if they are going out to firework demonstrations.
They are also urged to set burglar alarms and check all windows and doors are securely locked.
