ONE of Bolton's oldest pool players is to be honoured by his former team mates in the shape of a new sports trophy.
The name of Fred Peacock, an active member of the Gilnow Fossils until his death eight weeks ago, will live on as an award for the Deane and Daubhill Pool League player of the year.
The trophy was presented to the league in a ceremony held at the Gilnow Arms Pub, on Deane Road.
In the future the Fred Peacock Memorial Trophy will be used as a special award for outstanding talent. The 81-year-old suffered from Parkinson's disease and died of pneumonia.
The pub's pool captain, Barrie Winard, said Mr Peacock had helped the team to the Section Two title which saw them promoted to Section One. He said: "Pool and snooker was Fred's life and even at an old age he never lost his ability." The trophy was presented to Andy Peace, one of the league's committee members.
