DISTRAUGHT residents living in a terrace of houses in Bradshaw spent hours mopping up gallons of water from their homes.
The flash storms which rained on the town caused water to cascade into the hallways and cellars of properties on Bradshaw Brow.
Homeowners woke to find their carpets soaked and their electrical equipment dangerously wet.
They spent much of yesterday soaking up the water -- and putting preventative measures in place as weathermen predict more rain to come. One resident, Heather Dunn, said her 19-year-old daughter woke up at 7am to find her room -- located in the cellar -- swimming under two feet of water.
She said: "My daughter ran upstairs shouting for me and my husband to look at the damage.
"The water ran down from Canon Slade School and through the grating in the cellar. It got worse when cars drove through a huge puddle outside the house which sent more water into the house. My husband was soaked from head to toe."
Neighbour, Carol Newton, 57, also spent much of the morning sorting out the mess. Flooding last hit the property two years ago and she added: "I got up at five o'clock and couldn't open the front door. My husband had to go out in his wellies." in the end."
"Our main concern was that he had a freezer and a washing machine in the cellar and with them being electrical there was that element of danger. More drains are needed around here. The water just pours in at times like this."
