LOCAL boxer Amir Khan represented England in a tournament in Liverpoo and came back with the Gold Medal.
Amir fought in the 48kg weight division and in his group there were only three boxers, due to Scotland not being able to take part and Ireland unfortunately did not have a boxer at that weight.
His category had Amir Khan (England), Aaron Downs (England), Gary Buckland (Wales). Due to the number of boxers in his division one was automatically given a bye into the final, this was done by putting all the boxers names into a hat and drawing the first two who would then fight for a place in the final.
Amir's and Gary Buckland were drawn outleaving Aaron Downs with a to the final.
Amir met Buckland in a semi final on Friday which turned out to be a very exciting contest. The three round fight was scored by computer via three judges exactly the same way as in the Olympics.
Amir boxed well in all three rounds winning the bout with a score of 13 to 10, this meant it was an all England final with Amir meeting Aaron Downs on the following day.
In the final Amir boxed perfectly and give his opponent two standing counts. one in the second round and the second in the third round. Amir Won the bout convincingly by 15 to 4 and was awarded the Gold Medal.
