FIREFIGHTERS were today still trying to clear a flooded area of Leigh.
Plank Lane became heavily waterlogged on Monday during the heavy downpour and fire crews have been busy trying to pump water into the Bridgewater Canal.
The canal's water level dropped yesterday allowing the firefighters to direct the flood water there, but showers in the afternoon led to even more water building up in the area near to at least 50 houses.
The Environment Agency, council and borough engineers helped to secure homes in the area with sandbags while some residents temporarily moved into alternative accommodation.
An electric substation in Plank Lane may have to be closed if heavy rain falls again this week.
