CHORLEY'S green gurus had a fruitful time when they picked up special Green Apple awards at County Hall.
John West, leader of Lancashire County Council, presented the awards to eight bodies -- including Chorley Borough Council and North West Water -- to recognise the work they are doing with the county council on the Green Partnership Awards scheme.
The scheme -- which provides funding to community groups for small environmental projects -- has won the prestigious National Green Trophy in the Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice.
More than 180 councils nationwide were nominated for this year's awards.
Councillor West said: "By making funding and expertise available to local people we can make a difference in their local area, and often a small planting or tidy-up scheme can lead people to take on more adventurous and larger projects."
