THE poignant period of remembrance is approaching once more. A time which evokes in us the memories of the individuals who gave of themselves in the two global conflicts which dappled the fields of Europe with blood.

Though the images of the dead fade upon photographs as brown as autumn leaves in our minds, those very images are, and always will be, green and imbued with the light of eternal summer.

Surely the dead of the conflicts deserve to be honoured by something more than just a Poppy. On the nation's special Sunday, in the silence, let us promise our heroic slain that in this new Millennium we will each strive to obtain our objective. So that a day will arise when the world will no longer be dappled by the blood of wars.
