IT seems crystal clear to us. If First North Western cannot run an efficient train service they should lose their franchise.

Guy Harkin, deputy chairman of Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority, is only reiterating what this newspaper has stated for some time.

He describes the running of the service as "a disaster" and we do not disagree with that description.

Passengers have had enough of uncomfortable and crowded conditions and trains that don't run on time.

First North Western have had clear warning that they need to get their act together. It is about time they did.
