AN Adlington woman died after a fire in her home caused by an unattended chip pan.
Ciara Tenanty, aged 22, was taken to Chorley District Hospital in the early hours of Sunday following the blaze at her home in Railway View.
A police spokesman said officers were called to the blaze at 2.33am on Sunday.
When firefighters arrived, one occupant of the house, David Hough, aged 32, was outside, suffering from slight smoke inhalation and head injuries.
The spokesman said Miss Tenanty was found in a bedroom. She was taken to hospital where she later died.
Police say there are no suspicious circumstances.
A neighbour said Mr Hough has lived at the house for about five years, but Miss Tenanty had been there only a short time. The neighbour told how Mr Hough had made several attempts to get in to the house to rescue Miss Tenanty but was forced back by the blaze.
